Chia seeds can be a little hard to digest so in this smoothie bowl recipe the chia is soaked overnight.

Soak 1 tablespoon of chia seeds overnight if possible, in 3 tablespoons of unsweetened vanilla almond milk with 1 heaped tsp of cacao powder, (you can add ¼ tsp cinnamon here if you like)

For the smoothie:

  • 1 frozen banana in pieces
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of vanilla whey protein powder
  • ¼ cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • ¼ cup of your unsweetened vanilla yoghurt of choice
  • ½ cup of frozen mixed berries

Blend together adding the chia mixture last and pulse it through until blended.

For the topping suggestions:

  • Sprinkle some frozen blueberries in a row
  • Sprinkle some toasted pumpkin seeds and chopped almonds
  • Sprinkle a few goji berries

Little Bit Naughty Nutty Acai Smoothie Bowl

I say a little bit naughty because when you add Nuttvia hazelnut spread (similar to Nutella without the Palm Oil) it becomes a bit more like a dessert smoothie bowl!

Enjoy this take on the original-better-for-you, acai bowl as an indulgent treat every now and then.  I wonder how often is every now and then….

Put into the blender in the following order:

  1. Up to 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla Greek yoghurt or coconut yoghurt for a dairy free option
  2. ½ fresh apple chopped
  3. 2 heaped tablespoons of *Nuttvia hazelnut spread
  4. ½ cup of frozen blueberries
  5. 1 acai brick broken up
  6. 1 frozen banana in pieces
  7. 1 tablespoon of cacao powder
  8. If its too thick splash in a bit of unsweetened vanilla almond milk

For the topping:

Chop up some almonds with the oats, shredded coconut and add a sprinkle of cinnamon before sprinkling over the top.  Add some goji berries and a drizzle of bush honey.  Mmmmm that hit the spot didn’t it?

*Nuttvia hazelnut spread is preferred as it contains no palm oil, only 1.7% sugar and is suitable for the vegan diet.

Very Berry Decadent Cheesecake Smoothie Bowl

Okay so I saved the best till last.  Do you like cheesecake?

This is a serious insult to all things nutritional but such a delight to the tastebuds!

This will make 2 bowls because it is too nice you will not be willing to share your own.

You will need to buy a packet of dark chocolate digestive biscuits and blitz them in the blender for the crumble base of the 2 bowls.

Once you’ve completed that, rinse out the blender for the smoothie:

Blend together in the following order:

  1. 150gm cream cheese chopped
  2. 1/4 cup of unsweetened Greek vanilla yoghurt
  3. 1 cup of frozen blueberries
  4. 1 cup of mixed berries
  5. 1 frozen banana in pieces
  6. 1 acai berry brick broken up
  7. 4 chunks of frozen pineapple

Spoon on top of biscuit crumble.  Spoon leftover crumble with a bit of shredded coconut and chopped almonds over the top.
