So you’ve tried all the acai bowl recipe options at the cafes and think you can make better?
Absolutely you can and the benefits of making them at home are:
- You know what goes in them
- Costs lest – more acai for your dollar!
- You can add whatever toppings you like depending what you have on hand
- Most ingredients are frozen so easy to keep a supply in the freezer

- Once you get the basics, start getting creative!
- Great for using up leftover fruit
- You can make one to have at any time of the day….. breakfast, lunch, dessert!
Before I explain the Acai bowl recipe its important to have the use of a decent high powered benchtop blender. Need to look at purchasing a recommended blender?
A blender with a tamper is our recommendation to get a nice thick acai blend for the best result. A link to our test results will be coming soon.
How to Make an Acai Bowl - The Only recipe You Will Need!
Four ingredient Acai Bowl Recipe
- Frozen acai puree* – 1 block, break up in the wrapper first
- Frozen chopped ripe banana – a handful
- 1 fresh whole apple cored and chopped
- Frozen blueberries 3/4 cup
*if using acai powder use 2 tsp and add a couple of cubes of ice
This acai bowl recipe can hold up a spoon! Its thick and creamy all the way through, not sloppy like a smoothie.
You may read other acai bowl recipes that have juice or coconut water in them. This recipe includes a whole apple.
You will probably find that they are also blended in a blender that doesn’t require the use of a tamper.
This type of blender needs a little liquid in it to enable the acai recipe to blend properly, but it does tend to be a little sloppy. By the time you get to the bottom of the acai bowl it is usually liquid.
4 ingredients + 1200watt or higher steel blade blender + tamper = Perfect acai bowl blend!
How to Make an Acai Bowl Blend Nice and Thick
Cut up the apple and place first in to the blender. (This allows the unfrozen apple to juice up quickly providing the liquid you were wondering about)
Add next in the following order:
- blueberries
- acai
- bananas.
This order allows smallest to largest pieces, flick the switch to blend. Gradually use the tamper to push the fruit around until blended.
Spoon in to a bowl with some granola on the bottom, add your favourite toppings on top and enjoy!
It may take a Few Times to Perfect your Acai Bowl Recipe
Do not be disheartened if your acai didn’t turn out as you hoped. Practise makes perfect and you may need to adjust ingredients slightly to get it how you want.
Our recipes aim for a firm acai that will stay that way until the last spoonful!
Hint: Its far easier to make it a bit softer by adding a few drops of apple juice or almond milk at the end, rather than it being too sloppy to start with!
